If you are like most businessmen and women, you have no doubt heard of the term “SEO”. You may even think that you understand what it is all about because you know that it stands for Search Engine Optimization, and to that extent you are correct.
However, after that it can get confusing. Google was founded – believe it or not – less than 22 years ago on September 4th 1998 – and has since grown to be the mammoth that it is today. The name was chosen by the founders who, it is thought, mis-spelled the word googol, which is a massive number in mathematics. A googol is ten to the power of 100, which is ten x ten x ten x ten, and so on, to 100 times. That is a LOT and is what the Google founders were trying to show about their business – i.e. that it could handle massive amounts of information.
Google certainly does handle massive amounts of information, and today, if you want to get free advertising, you need your business to be on page 1 of Google, and preferably in the first three results.
Why? Because 50% of all clicks go to the first three results on Google, so the higher you rank, the better. The bad news is that only 10% of searchers ever go to page 2 of Google, so if you are not on page 1 you can basically forget it!
SEO Is The Process Of Getting Your Business On To Page 1
SEO is the process of getting your website on to page 1, and ideally into the first position. And that is not a simple or straightforward process.
Google ranks your website according to its’ relevance to searchers. That means that your website has to include search terms that the majority of searchers would use. The more relevant your website is – according to Google’s ideas – the higher it will rank.
Bear in mind that this is according to Google. You might have an auto repair shop. Now searchers in your city may search for “auto repairs near me” – “near me” being a search term that has come into use in the last two or three years. That means that your business has to (a) use the term “auto repairs” and (b) be physically located near to the searcher! If you use the term “car repairs” it won’t show to people searching for “auto repairs” even if you are only around the corner from the searcher.
Think SEO and Leads LLC is a recently launched business that specializes in organizing your website so that it uses all the right terms that Google wants to see, and will thus rank it very highly – which is what you want.
In short, we don’t know anything about auto repairs, but we DO know how to get your business where you want it and where you will get a lot of inquiries.
